1. The Six Elements Of Crime: (Superman vs Lex Luthor / written by Edmond Hamilton) Perry sends Clark to the chemical society's exhibit and sends Lois along to try and dig up a human interest angle. At the exhibit they find Lex Luthor. Before Superman could act Luther's men role a big led ball into some support pillars and he is stuck the roof up while they stole some samples and escaped. the only valuable element stolen is uranium so Superman tries to track them with that but Luther planted it in a random car while he escaped.

returning to the society Superman is shown a letter that was found in which Luthor explains that they had removed his name from their member list because he went to prison so he will now use the samples he stole from the to commit crimes that will make his name remembered forever.

at the great federal electric company plant, Lex uses the tungsten sample to bluff his way in so he can steal their platinum but one of the executives turns on a giant lightbulb, getting Superman's attention. Lex shatters the bulb, sending glass flying at the executives, and escapes without the platinum while Superman is saving them.

Superman gets an idea and returns to the planet to work it out, figuring out that Luthor is spelling his name with the first letter of the element he uses in his crimes. believing the next crime will involve either hydrogen or helium so he rushes to check on certain factories but he soon sees a hydrogen balloon which starts burning when he aprotches it. quickly, he tows it out to sea to keep it from causing havoc in the city. while Superman is distracted Lex releases oxygen gas in a tunnel under the river to make the drivers dizzy and groggy so he and his men can steal a payroll from an armored car.

meanwhile, Lois has found the paper on Clark's desk and heads off to find Superman so she can tell him what Clark figured out. she notices something is happening in the tunnel and wonders in and is found by Luthor just as Superman arrives. Lex takes her hostage and Superman must let him escape. Superman has an idea of what Lex will do next but decides he needs the new element Supermanium to stop him so goes off to make some.

Luthor arrives at a radium institute with Lois in tow where he claims he wants to make a small donation of pure radium but once the vault is open he tries to steal the smaller safe inside. Superman shows up just then telling Lex if he lets Lois go he can take the radium and he won't go after him or call the police for 24 hours. knowing superman keeps his word Luthor accepts.

turns out the safe is made of Supermanium so Superman watches him try and fail to get it open for the next 24 hours before taking him to jail.

2. Lois Lane's Royal Romance: (Lois, Superman / written by William Woolfolk) a visiting king from a small near east country becomes infatuated with Lois and asks her to marry him but tells him she will only marry Superman. the king claims he can do anything Superman can and more so, thinking it would be fun and a good story she tells him she will marry him if he can perform 3 tasks impossible for most but easy for superman. hearing this Clark decides to teach her a lesson and help the king as Superman.

first, she tells him to go to the bank and get her diary from her safety deposit box. superman tells him to get his own box at the bank to get into the vault then makes a key to Loise's box and leaves it for the king to find.

surprised and thinking it was just luck she next tells him to get a millionaire who boasts he never gave away a nickel to donate that much to charity. Superman takes the king to the man's house, all boarded up so they have to go in thru the chimney. the man made his money by tricking people with bets so at Superman's suggestion the king bets him $1,000 against a nickel and a note saying it is for charity that if he took his turban off and put it on the floor the man couldn't jump over it. the man agrees but is beaten when the king puts his turban in the corner.

now worried the king will succeed Lois gives him the task of putting Superman's true identity in big letters where all of metropolis can read it. feeling beaten since he wouldn't do this even if he could the king leaves but Superman goes to him to have a talk before writing "Superman is Clark Kent" in the sky with fire but Clark Kent is written in an ancient language that very few people know. Superman confirms to Lois that while it was in a language she couldn't read the name was accurate and she reluctantly agrees to the marriage. she gets so far as saying I do in a civil ceremony but the king answers no, saying she is selfish, conceited, and never wanted to marry him but only wanted to use him for a story. she got that story and it got her a raise.
